Don Wehby is 2015 ICAJ Distinguished Member Awardee

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Jamaica (ICAJ) is pleased to announce that Mr. Don Wehby, FCA, has been selected as the 2015 ICAJ Distinguished Member Awardee.

The award is presented annually to a member of ICAJ who has contributed, through his/her outstanding achievements, to the prestige and status of the Institute and the Accountancy profession. A Fellow of the ICAJ, Mr. Wehby is the Group Chief Executive Officer of GraceKennedy Limited.

“An exemplar of the profession, ICAJ is pleased to recognise Don Wehby as this year’s Awardee, especially during this our 50th Anniversary Celebrations”, said Bruce Scott, President, ICAJ. “May we continue to be inspired by his sterling contributions to the profession, the private sector, Government and the nation.”

Mr. Wehby will be presented with the Distinguished Member Award at the ICAJ’s Golden Gala Awards Banquet which will be held at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel on Thursday, December 3, 2015, under the distinguished patronage of His Excellency the Most Honourable Sir Patrick Allen, ON, GCMG, CD, K.St.J, Governor-General of Jamaica.

Prior to his appointment as Group Chief Executive Officer in 2011, Mr. Wehby held various positions at GraceKennedy, including Group Finance Manager, Group Chief Financial Officer and has served as Chief Operating Officer for the Financial Services Division. He has led the Group's local and international expansion especially as it relates to banking, investments and insurance services and has directed the listing of the company in Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean Securities Exchange sited in St. Kitts.

In September 2007, Mr. Wehby resigned from his positions at GraceKennedy Ltd. and its Board of Directors to serve for two years as Government Senator and Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service. Following his two-year stint in public service, he was reappointed to the Board of Directors of GraceKennedy Ltd. on his return to GraceKennedy  in 2009.  He is also a Director of several of GraceKennedy’s Boards including Chairman of First Global Holdings GK Foods & Services Limited and GraceKennedy Money Services SRL.

His other affiliations include Vice Chairman of the Diaspora Conference Implementation Council and Vice-President of the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) where he was the Chairman of its Economic Policy Committee as well as Honorary Treasurer. He also served on the boards of Food for the Poor, Cable & Wireless Jamaica and his alma mater, St. George’s College where he currently serves as a Director of its Endowment Fund Board.

In May 2015, Mr. Wehby received the ‘Key to the City’ of Miramar, Florida, for his work in the private sector, his service in government, and his overall contribution to Jamaica. Mr. Wehby holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons.) and a Master of Science degree in Accounting from the University of the West Indies (Mona).
