June
2005 Graduate Breaks 12-year Record for
Sushil Jain Award
Taariq
Abdul-Majeed, June 2005 graduate, captured
the spotlight at the ICAJ/ACCA Graduation
Ceremony on Saturday, October 22, 2005
when he was named the youngest graduate to
have completed the ICAJ/ACCA Joint Scheme
Examinations since 1993.
Taariq had
the distinct honour of breaking the
12-year record held by Bruce Scott, as
being the youngest graduate who completed
the ACCA professional examinations at the
age of 21.
Born August
6, 1984, Taariq sat Part 3 of the ACCA
Examination in June 2005 at the age of 20.
His track
record for academic excellence was
established as a teenager when he
graduated from St. Jago High School with 9
CXC passes. He studied "A" Level
Accounts on his own and after successfully
attaining a pass in that subject, he
gained an exemption from level
"A" in the Certified Accounting
Technician (CAT) programme.
In
recognition of his outstanding
performance, he was awarded the 2003 CAT
Award presented by the ICAJ to the student
completing level "C" in one
sitting, with the highest average of all
those who sat the examination during the
calendar year.
Taariq
completed the ACCA professional
examinations in two years after completing
the CAT programme in 2003.
The eldest
of five children, he notes that his desire
to succeed is also influenced by his
desire to help his younger siblings
realize their goals.
He credits
his faith as a Muslim, as that which
influences him to be the best and to
differentiate himself from the ordinary.
Described
as perseverant and easy-going, he plans to
pursue the Oxford Brookes Degree and a
Masters Degree in Finance. He also intends
to qualify as a Certified Financial
Analyst and to establish his own firm.
The
Sushil Jain Award is presented to the
youngest candidate who completes the final
stage of the ICAJ/ACCA Joint Scheme
examinations, on the first attempt each
year.
