Opens New Caretakers' Cottage and Students' Restroom Facility
A newly built caretaker's cottage and
restroom facility for students were officially opened on Thursday,
November 6, 2003.
The facilities were officially opened
by ICAJ President, Mr. Linroy Marshall and Executive Director of the
Institute, Mrs. Sidonne Whitelock. Reverend Al Miller, Pastor of
Fellowship Tabernacle Church conducted the official blessing of new
facilities.
In his opening remarks, Mr Marshall
noted that the new caretaker's cottage and restroom facilities, were
another milestone in the history of the ICAJ.
"In 1992, the plans for the
construction of modern offices for the Institute was developed and
approved following the acquisition of the property; and construction
of the Secretariat offices commenced in 1993. The Institute's new
home was completed in 1994 and officially opened in 1995. Today,
eight years later, we add to the annals of our history the
completion of a new caretaker's cottage and expanded restroom
facilities for students," he stated.
The construction of the facilities
was in response to the need for a suitable residence for the
caretaker, Victor Hall, as well as the demand for expanded restroom
amenities for students, given the increased use of the Institute's
study/library facilities. The contract for the project was signed on
June 11, 2003 and practical completion was on October 29.
Mr. Marshall announced that the next
phase in the development of the property would include an expanded
parking area, in response to the increased use of the Secretariat
facilities by members and students.
The official opening of the
facilities was attended by Members of Council, Past Presidents,
Jasper Burnett, CD; Kenneth LaCruise, C. Patricia Hayle and
Immediate Past President, Garth Kiddoe.
Representatives from the Student
Affairs Committee and the Student Society as well as Contractor,
Keith Jackson, Contract Administrator, Barry Brown, Caretaker,
Victor Hall and members of the ICAJ Secretariat also shared in the
occasion.
