New ICAJ Leadership Elected for 2007/2008
Miss
Prunella Vassell, FCA, FCCA, was elected
President of the Institute of Chartered
Accountants of Jamaica (ICAJ) for the year
2007/2008, following its 42nd Annual
General Meeting on July 25 at the Jamaica
Pegasus Hotel.
Miss
Vassell was first elected to Council in
July 1997 and has played an active role in
the development of the ICAJ. During her
six-year stint as Treasurer, she was
instrumental in establishing a first-rate
Treasury unit at the ICAJ.
She has
served the Institute widely over the
years, chairing the Student Affairs,
Taxation and Public Relations/Publications
Committees. She has also been an active
member of and continues to serve the
Institute’s Membership, Current Affairs,
Future of the Profession, Student Affairs,
Taxation and Legislation Review
Committees.
She has
been a member of the Management Committee
of the Students’ Accountancy Training
Consortium since 1985. She was appointed
chairman in 1991 and 1992 and chaired its
Technical Committee until July 2007. She
is also a member of the Advisory Board of
the School of Business of the University
of Technology (UTECH) and has served on
the Business Board of Studies of the
University Council of Jamaica (UCJ).
An
Associate in charge of Audit Services and
Tax Consultancy at Paul Goldson & Company,
Miss Vassell has extensive experience in
the areas of Income Tax and General
Consumption Tax (GCT).
Mr.
Archibald Campbell, FCA, MSc. has been
elected Vice President of the Institute of
Chartered Accountants of Jamaica (ICAJ)
for the year 2007/2008.
Mr.
Campbell was first elected to the Council
of the ICAJ in 2002 and has served as
Chairman of the Taxation Committee and
Treasurer from 2005 until 2007. He has
also served as a member of the ICAJ’s
Accounting Standards, Continuing
Professional Education (CPE), Current
Affairs, Future of the Profession and
Membership Committees. He now serves as
Chairman of the ICAJ’s Property
Redevelopment Committee.
Currently a
Lecturer in the Department of Management
Studies, University of the West Indies
(Mona), Mr. Campbell is a regular trainer
on corporate governance for the Private
Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) and
also serves as a presenter for technical
seminars hosted by the ICAJ.
Mr.
Campbell is the Deputy Chairman of the
Board of Directors of the Jamaica Money
Market Brokers and a Director of JMMB
Securities Limited. He has also served as
a member of the Board of Directors for
various corporate entities including
Mutual Security Bank (Cayman) Limited, NCB
Cayman Limited, International Hotels
Limited (Hedonism II), Jamaica Hotels
Limited, Edward Gayle & Company Limited,
NCB Investments Limited and Jamaica Mutual
Properties Limited.
