ICAJ
Increases Involvement with Elsie Bemand
The ICAJ
continues to demonstrate its commitment to
the care and welfare of the over 22
teenaged girls at the Elsie Bemand Girls'
Home.
The ICAJ,
through its Public Relations/Publications
Committee, has been organizing a series of
activities during the year for the ICAJ-adopted
charity.
An "Easter
Bun and Cheese Feed" was held
at the Home on Sunday, April 9, 2006,
where the girls where treated to bun and
cheese and other goodies. A computer and
printer donated by Olga Ramsay and ICAJ
Vice President, Prunella Vassell,
respectively, were officially handed over
to the Home during the treat. Internet
service was also donated free of cost by
Kasnet Online to assist the girls in
undertaking critical research for
school-related assignments.
On May 23,
2006, the PR/Publications Committee
organised a Labour Day project to improve
the physical appearance of the Home.
Sherwin Williams and EdgeChem donated tins
of paints while Fleetwood Jamaica Limited
donated paintbrushes towards this project.
The team
including ICAJ President, Leighton
McKnight; project co-ordinator and member
of the PR/Publication Committee, Donna
Deidrick, and other Committee members,
Dennis Chung, Peter Holmes and Orville
Christie, spent the day painting the
facilities.
A poolside
fun day was hosted for the girls on
Saturday, July 8 at the Smokeyvale home of
Audley and Donna Deidrick.
A "Back
to School Drive" to help meet
the needs of the girls for the new school
term will be carried out during the months
of July and August. Educational supplies
donated by ICAJ members will be handed
over to the Home at the end of August.
