ICAJ
Exposes Youngsters To Career Choices
In keeping
with efforts to foster greater involvement
by the ICAJ with its charity, Elsie Bemand
Girls' Home, members of the PR &
Publications Committee provided
sponsorship for nine girls to attend the
Choices Career & Education Expo, held
at the Hilton Kingston Hotel on June 2 and
June 3.
The girls,
who are presently attending high schools
in the Corporate Area, were exposed to a
wide range of career options and the
educational requirements to pursue these
careers.
"It
has made us much more aware of different
career choices even those that we never
thought about or imagined that we could
do. I am happy for this opportunity,"
states 18 year-old Natasha Edwards.
Her 17-year
old colleague, Natashaja Hutchinson, added
that it was a very good experience because
she was now informed about the
requirements for various careers that she
was interested in pursuing.
"Young
people are looking for guidance as it
relates to career choices and further
studies and I think it is really good that
the ICAJ could assist in exposing the
girls to this career and education
expo," states PR & Publications
Committee member, Patricia Henry, who
advised the girls about choosing a career
in the field of accountancy during their
visit to the ICAJ booth.
Established
in 1979, the Elsie Bemand Girls' Home has
been a haven for adolescent girls who have
been placed there for care and protection
by the Family Court. The Home is supported
by the St. Andrew Business and
Professional Club and through donations
from organisations such as the ICAJ.
