ICAJ
CELEBRATES 40-YEAR MILESTONE
On Sunday,
January 9, the ICAJ marked its 40th
Anniversary with a Thanksgiving Service in
Kingston at the First Missionary Church.
Reflecting
on the 40 years of achievement, ICAJ
President, Mr. Linroy Marshall, paid
tribute to the contribution of past and
present leaders and members of Council,
who have remained committed to the
objectives of the Institute.
"Service
to others above self is at the very heart
of God. The dedicated service to others
given by our members, who continue to
volunteer their time and expertise to the
various committees of council and in other
respects, is a reflection of that aspect
of the character of the creator, and a
gift from him, and it is a large part of
what is responsible for our success as an
institute and a profession," Mr.
Marshall said
He charged
the members of the profession to continue
to serve in the best interest of others
and the wider society and that their
service should be marked by integrity and
the highest ethical principles.
He also
encouraged the congregation in their
service to others to remember the people
of South East Asia who were affected by
the devastating tsunami that occurred on
December 26, 2004 resulting in the death
of more than 150,000 persons and millions
being left homeless.
"I,
therefore, encourage you to support, even
in the smallest way, the initiative by the
Government to start a special fund for the
victims of this enormous tragedy. The fund
is part of a global effort to assist the
people of South East Asia ---humanity
deserves no less and our response is a
demonstration of our love and our service
to others," he added.
In keeping
with the celebration of the Institute's
40th anniversary, Mr. Marshall presented a
cheque, on behalf of the Institute, to
First Missionary Church to assist with its
outreach programme.
Past
Presidents as well as Council Members,
other ICAJ members, Secretariat staff,
family members and friends, attended the
Anniversary Church Service in Kingston.
A
thanksgiving service was also held in
Montego Bay at the Burchell Baptist Church
on January 16 and was ICAJ members from
Kingston and the western region, students
and well-wishers.
