2007 ICAJ/ACCA Examination Awardees

The 2007 ICAJ/ACCA Graduation and Awards Presentation Ceremony was held on October 20, 2007 at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel. Keynote speaker was Professor Errol Morrison, OJ, Principal, University of Technology, Jamaica. As is customary, the ICAJ presented awards to the students with outstanding academic records in the December 2006 and June 2007 ICAJ/ACCA Joint Scheme Examinations.

The Part 1 Examination Award is presented to the student who passes all three subjects at the first attempt, in one sitting, with an average mark of not less than sixty percent.

This year, two candidates from the December 2006 Examination diet, met the criteria for the Part 1 Examination award, Mark Howell and Tameka Salmon, having attained an average of 75.3% and 60.6% respectively.

Two candidates, Shena Cameron and Camisha Sinanon, also qualified for the Part 1 Examination award from the June 2007 Examination diet. The candidates attained an average of 68.3% and 67%, respectively.

Mark Christopher Howell
Part 1 Examination Awardee
December 2006

Mark is a graduate of the University of the West Indies, Mona, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science and is the recipient of awards for outstanding performance in English, Technical Drawing and Biology from Ardenne High School. He is currently employed to Marathon Insurance Brokers as a Senior Information Technology Officer and plans to establish his own business specializing in Information Technology in the future.

Tameka Salmon
Part 1 Examination Awardee
December 2006

Currently employed as a Loan Portfolio Officer at the National Housing Trust, Tameka holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of the West Indies, Mona. She was a member of the Properties and Special Initiatives Committee of the UWI Guild, and received a certificate of appreciation for her outstanding service and contribution. She is also the recipient of a trophy for outstanding results in CXC Mathematics and two gold medals for achieving the highest overall academic record from her alma mater, Alpha Academy.

Shena Cameron
Part 1 Examination Awardee
June 2007

Shena is currently employed as a Senior Assistant at KPMG. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Banking and Finance from the University of the West Indies, Mona. Having benefited from UWI's mentorship programme, she has now dedicated her life to mentoring others. Her long-term goals include establishing a part-time consultancy that mentors and assists young people in fulfilling their potential and achieving their goals. She also plans to pursue further studies including the Certified Financial Analyst programme.

Camisha Sinanon
Part 1 Examination Awardee
June 2007

Camisha is a Staff Accountant at PricewaterhouseCoopers. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics and Statistics from the University of the West Indies, Mona. She was the recipient of the NCB Jamaica Education Institute Scholarship for the period 2004-2006 while attending UWI. She was also the recipient of the Manning's subject prize for outstanding performance in Mathematics from her alma mater, Manning's High School.

There was no Part 2 Examination Award.

The Part 3 Examination Award is presented to any student who completes Level 3 in not more than two consecutive sittings. The candidate must attain the highest average mark of those who sat the examinations in Jamaica.

Nattisha Cornwall
Part 3 Examination Awardee
December 2006

Nattisha holds a first class honours degree in Computer Science from the University of the West Indies, Mona, and has a track record of academic excellence. She was the recipient of the Texaco Foundation Scholarship for 2002-2004 and a UWI Bursary for her outstanding performance during her first year of study. She is also the recipient of the Wolmer's Trust Scholarship for outstanding CXC examination results and a Certificate of Excellence for academic performance while attending Wolmer's High School. A Senior Accountant at PricewaterhouseCoopers, her long-term goal includes pursuing a MBA programme and obtaining a PhD.

Natalie Dyer
Part 3 Examination Awardee
June 2007

Natalie is currently employed at the West Indies Alumina Company as a Financial Accountant. She attended Knox College, where she obtained a first class honours diploma for her outstanding CXC results. She also received the Knox Community College Spaulding Campus Award for the period 2001/2002 and 2002/2003 for outstanding overall academic performance. She was also the recipient of the Paul Lyn Scholarship for outstanding performance in AAT (Level 1) while attending (Knox Community College). She has a strong motivation towards higher education and believes that there is always an opportunity to gain more knowledge. She, therefore, plans to pursue further studies including a Masters Degree.

The Sushil Jain Award is presented to the youngest candidate who completes the final stage of the ICAJ/ACCA Joint Scheme examinations, on the first attempt each year.

Latoya Hylton
Sushil Jain Awardee for 2006/2007

Latoya is a Senior Accountant at KPMG. She holds a first class honours degree in Accounting from the University of the West Indies, Mona, and has a track record of academic excellence. Her exemplary record was established during high School when she received:

  • The Green's Award for most outstanding CXC in Accounts
  • The General Excellence Award (for achievements in all subjects)
  • The Joel's Awards for the highest average at "A" level in Geography
  • The award for the highest average at "A" level in Mathematics and
  • The honour roll for Academic Excellence in the "A" level examinations

She also distinguished herself at UWI earning the Department of Management Studies prize for maintaining the highest average for the three-year period 2002-2005; the KPMG Scholarship Award for attaining an "A" average during her first year of study and the Faculty of Social Sciences Award for the highest average for the three-year period 2002-2005. In 2003, she was inducted into the Faculty of Social Sciences Dean's Breakfast Club for her outstanding academic performance. In 2005 she made the Faculty of Social Sciences Honour Roll.
