2006 Certified Accounting Technician
Awardees
For the
first time in the history of the Certified
Accounting Technician (CAT) Programme in
Jamaica, the ICAJ took the decision to
present an award in respect of each of the
June and December examination diets in
recognition of students with outstanding
performance in the CAT examinations.
Previously,
the ICAJ presented one award each year to
the student who completes the entire CAT
programme in three (3) sittings over a
maximum of two years, with the highest
average mark of all those who sat the
examinations.
Also, for
the first time since the introduction of
the CAT programme in January 1998, the
ICAJ presented an award to the youngest
graduate among all those completing the
June and December examination diets. This
award is the Sushil Jain Award and
will be presented annually.
The June
2006 CAT Awardee was Sanike Sutherland
who, upon completing the CAT programme in
three (3) sittings over a maximum of two
years, attained the highest average mark
of 74% at the June examination. The
twenty-year-old graduate sat the CAT
programme at Montego Bay Community College
where she was elected Student of the Year
for 2006 and was named on the Student
Honour Roll. She was also the recipient of
an award of excellence for outstanding
performance from among the Certified
Accounting Technician group. She received
an ICAJ plaque and a gift certificate
donated by Acorn Bookstore in recognition
of her outstanding performance.
Special
mention was made of Teania Natasha
Galloway who, although not qualifying for
the June 2006 award, attained the second
highest average of 73% at the June 2006
examination diet.
The
December 2006 Awardee was Sydoney
Seaton, who completed the CAT programme in
three (3) sittings over a maximum of two
years and attained the highest average
mark of 60% of all the students who sat
the December examinations. The 20-year-old
graduate also sat the CAT programme at
Montego Bay. Sydoney received an ICAJ
plaque and a gift basket donated by T.
Geddes Grant Jamaica Ltd.
The
inaugural Sushil Jain Awardee, Kay-ann
Gibbs, completed the CAT programme at the
age of 18. She studied the CAT programme
at the Montego Bay Community College,
where she made the Principal’s Honour Roll
for 2004-2005.
Another first for the CAT programme was
the fact that all the awardees were from
the western region and they all studied at
the Montego Bay Community College. The
ICAJ extends special commendations to the
lecturers and staff at the Montego Bay
Community College for their standard of
excellence and for producing the top
graduates in the 2006 CAT examination.
