Sweet Rewards……….at 2005 PRSJ Awards
"Everybody's Business: ICAJ's Perspective," & ICAJ's Annual Report

The ICAJ Current Affairs Feature, "Everybody's Business: ICAJ's Perspective," and the 2003-2004 Annual Report copped awards at the Public Relations Society of Jamaica's (PRSJ) Annual Awards of Excellence Ceremony held at the Hilton Kingston Hotel on March 30.

An initiative of the Current Affairs Committee, "Everybody's Business: ICAJ's Perspective," has been published in the Financial Gleaner since May 17, 2002 and has served as a medium through which ICAJ members express their views on issues affecting the profession and the wider society. It is envisioned that through the quality of articles contributed by members, the Institute and its members will be recognised as vocal participants on issues of national importance.

"Everybody's Business: ICAJ's Perspective," was submitted along with the 2003-2004 Annual Report as entries in the 2004 PRSJ Awards of Excellence Competition.

The PRSJ Awards of Excellence seeks to recognise outstanding work done by public relations practitioners on behalf of organisations and/or clients annually. Entries are judged in two main categories - Communications Skills (newsletters, annual reports, brochures, special publications, audiovisual, as well as websites) and Communication Management (corporate communication and public education programmes and special events projects).

The 2003-2004 ICAJ Annual Report, which received an Award of Excellence, was judged based on the quality of editing, content and design, as well as the relevance/value of the publication in meeting the needs of the membership of the Institute and other interest groups.

"Everybody's Business: ICAJ's Perspective," received an Honourable Mention award on the basis that the initiative was introduced to meet specific objectives in support of the Institute's overall goals and that it has provided an avenue for the profession to be vocal on issues of national importance. The value of the column was also recognised in that it has served to generate public recognition for the ICAJ and its members.

As the Institute, through the Current Affairs Committee, continues its initiative to increase the influence and impact of its members through the level and quality of its contribution on national issues, members are being encouraged to contribute articles for the Current Affairs Feature column. Articles published via "Everybody's Business: ICAJ's Perspective," or in any other medium designated by the Current Affairs Committee earn CPE credits (structured).

ICAJ Members, Graduates, Registered ICAJ/ACCA and AAT Students with burning issues or commentaries can submit articles to pubrelations@cwjamaica.com

Articles should:

  • Focus on accounting, auditing, finance, taxation, information systems or any current topical issues that are of interest to the public.
  • Mainly technical or educational in its content.
  • No more than three pages (letter size) in length

The Institute's thrust to increase the influence and impact of the accountancy profession on issues of national importance, particularly those that are of direct relevance to the profession, has indeed reaped sweet rewards.
