Institute
of Chartered Accountants of Jamaica
announces the
ELECTION OF OFFICERS FOR 2003/2004
Mr Linroy
J. Marshall, FCA, MSc. (Accounting) was
elected as President of the Institute of
Chartered Accountants of Jamaica (ICAJ)
for the year 2003/2004, following the 38th
Annual General Meeting of the Institute on
July 23rd at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel. Mr
Marshall was previously elected Vice
President in 2001 and re-elected in 2002.
He was first elected to Council in 1998.
A partner
of KPMG since 1992, Mr Marshall is
Chairman of the Future of the Profession
Committee of the Institute as well as KPMG
Jamaica's Professional Practice Committee
(with responsibility for quality
assurance). He also serves as a member of
the Institute's Current Affairs, Audit
Practice and Admissions Committees.
He is a
financial services industry specialist and
has considerable experience in the audit
of commercial banks and other financial
services companies. He has held leadership
roles in statutory audits of government
statutory bodies, manufacturing and
trading companies and in financial
institutions.
As
President, Mr Marshall believes that,
"the key area of focus will be to
ensure that the local profession is fully
prepared for the increasing liberalization
of trade in services which will result
from the implementation of the treaty
establishing a Caribbean Single Market and
Economy (CSME) as well as negotiations for
the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA)
and the World Trade Organization (WTO)."
Emphasis
will also be placed on advancing the
process for improving quality assurance
through peer review and monitoring as well
as the implementation and use of
international standards, including
International Financial Reporting
Standards (IFRS) and International
Standards on Auditing (ISA).
A Fellow of
the Institute, Mr Marshall holds a Masters
Degree in Accounting from the University
of the West Indies, Mona and completed the
Uniform Examinations of the AICPA (as a
registered student of the Colorado State
Board of Accountancy) in 1988.
Mr Marshall
is a member of the Board of Governors of
the Jamaica Theological Seminary, member
of the Board of Directors and Treasurer of
the Students Christian Fellowship and
Scripture Union, Deputy Chairman, Church
Council, Treasurer, and lay-preacher and
teacher at the First Missionary Church
(FMC). In addition, he is Chairman of
Thatch House (an inner city skills
training project) - a subsidiary of FMC.
Linroy is a
member of the Liguanea Club and the UWI
Guild of Graduates. He enjoys reading,
walking and gardening.
Mr Leighton
McKnight, FCA, FCCA, BSc. was elected as
Vice President of the Institute of
Chartered Accountants of Jamaica (ICAJ)
for the year 2003/2004.
A Partner
in the firm of PricewaterhouseCoopers, Mr
McKnight is Chairman of the ICAJ's Audit
Practice Committee and a member of its
Bye-Laws and Future of the Profession
Committees.
He has over
sixteen years experience in auditing,
accounting and financial consulting, He is
currently PWC's lead partner for internal
audit outsourcing services and is also
responsible for the recruitment of audit
staff for the firm. Mr McKnight is a
Fellow of the Institute and the
Association of Chartered Certified
Accountants (ACCA), United Kingdom. He
holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in
Management Studies from the University of
the West Indies (UWI).
A Past
President of the Kiwanis Club of North St.
Andrew, Mr McKnight is currently the
Treasurer for Division 23 East and the
Certified Circle K Trainer for the Eastern
Canada & Caribbean District of Kiwanis
International. He is Chairman of the
Jamaica Football Federation's Finance
Committee and has served as Executive
Member of the Cornwall Old Boys
Association and of both the UWI Guild of
Graduates and Guild of Under Graduates. He
has also served on the Board of several
corporate entities, including Mutual Life
Assurance Company, Jamaica Property
Company Limited and the Scientific
Research Council.
Leighton is
a visiting lecturer in auditing at the
University of the West Indies, Mona and a
member of its mentorship programme. A
member of the Kingston Cricket and
Pelicans Football Clubs, he enjoys outdoor
sports, listening to music and reading. Mr
McKnight is married to Novelette and they
have a son.
The
other Principal Officer for 2003/2004 are:
Miss Prunella Vassell, Associate at Paul
Goldson & Company and Victor Markman,
Managing Partner, BDO Jamaica, who were
re-appointed to the posts of Treasurer and
Secretary respectively.
