The Institute of Chartered Accountants regulates the practice of Accountancy in Jamaica as well as the use of the Accountancy designations - CA ad FCA. When you become a member you become certified to practice as a Chartered Accountant.

To qualify as a member you must;

  • Pass any of the qualifying examinations of the Institute (ACCA Professional examinations or a Master of Science Degree in Accounting from the University of the West Indies, Mona, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountant (AICPA) examinations or the Canadian Certified General Accounting (CGA) examinations).
  • Have obtained practical experience of not less than three years, by working in a professional firm or being engaged in accounting work in other acceptable organizations in sufficiently responsible positions.
  • Be at least 21 years old.
  • Have been proposed and seconded by two members of the Institute.
  • Be elected to membership by Council of the Institute.

MEMBERS REGISTRATION DETAILS:
If you are currently in practice, your membership fee is $18,407 (inclusive of GCT) per annum. If you are NOT currently in practice, your yearly membership fee is $15,028.50 (inclusive of GCT).

The answer is:

Gloria Hamilton was the first female Chartered Accountant to be awarded the national honour - the Order of Distinction - Commander Class in 1996.
