The COUNCIL of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Jamaica comprises twelve members who manage the affairs of the Institute.
The COUNCIL is elected annually in accordance with the Bye-Laws. In COUNCIL one member must be a Public Officer. Of the remainder one third must be persons who are neither accountants in practice nor Public Officers.
The COUNCIL elects its President and Vice-president. A Treasurer and Honorary Secretary are appointed annually. These appointees may or may not be members of Council.
Together these four officers constitute the body of Principal Officers. The Principal Officers monitor operational activities of the ICAJ Secretariat through its Executive Director.

The objectives of the Institute are achieved though the work of 15 standing committees, 12 of which are headed by members of Council. The other committees, which are headed by non-members of Council, are Current Affairs, Disciplinary and Investigations.
