A SENSE OF HISTORY

The Coat of Arms was chosen as the Institute's logo after much deliberation for over two years (1965 – 1966). The Coat of Arms consists of a Shield surmounted by a Crest. Beneath, the motto of the Institute was inscribed in a scroll. The Crest, which is symbolic of Jamaica, is a crocodile on a piece of log.

  • ICAJ MEMBERSHIP PINS

    Dear members,

    The ICAJ has introduced for the first time membership pins which are available free of cost to members. The gold pins are for members in the category of Fellow and the silver pins are for members in the category of Associate.

    Members who have not yet collected their pins are being asked to contact the ICAJ Secretariat.

     
  • IFRS 7 – ARE YOU READY TO TELL THE MARKET
    HOW YOU MANAGE RISK?

    IFRS 7, Financial Instruments: Disclosures is effective for annual accounting periods beginning on or after January 1, 2007. Hence, IFRS 7 disclosures will be mandatory for the upcoming December 31, 2007 year-ends with comparatives required in respect of the previous year. Warmest congrats to Mrs. Muriel Bailey who responded correctly to last quarter's trivia question "Who is the first female Chartered Accountant to be awarded the national honour - the Order of Distinction - Commander Class, and when"?

The answer is:

Gloria Hamilton was the first female Chartered Accountant to be awarded the national honour - the Order of Distinction - Commander Class in 1996.
