AFFILIATIONS OF THE ICAJ - The IFAC

The International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) came into being as a result of initiatives put forward in 1973 and formally approved at the International Congress of Accountants in Munich in 1977.

The mission of IFAC is the world-wide development and enhancement of the accountancy profession with harmonised standards, to provide services of consistently high quality in the public interest. It is a non-profit, non-governmental, nonpolitical international organisation of accountancy bodies.

Through co-operation with member bodies, regional organisations of accountancy bodies and other world organisations, IFAC initiates, co-ordinates and guides efforts to achieve international technical, ethics and education for the accountancy profession.

Membership

Membership in IFAC is open to accountancy bodies recognized by law or general consensus within their countries as substantial national organisations of good standing within the accountancy profession. Membership in IFAC automatically includes membership in the International Accounting Standards Committee (IASC).

The membership of IFAC member bodies comprises more than 2,000,000 accountants in public and private practice, education and government service.

See more about the IFAC at www.ifac.org.uk.
